What does life as a woman or girl look like in your part of the world? What roles do women play in your society?
A woman in my part of the world is playing the role of a builder, the creator, but somehow an oppressed creator. A creator who is struggling for freedom.
What do you think is the most significant barrier to women empowerment and/or gender equality today?
Women. There are women who keep pulling you back when you are trying to pull yourself out. It can be professional jealousy and other stuff but I believe if women help each other, they can bring the change.
OK, tell us all about yourself. Who are YOU & what should the world know about you?
I'm Anee Muskan. A published author. As a writer, I write articles for women empowerment and minority rights.
Describe yourself in one word: "I am... a striving writer.
What are you most passionate about and what are you doing with that passion?
I'm passionate about writing. I'm devising that passion into bringing change. People text me after my articles. I get a lot of hate and that's how I know that somehow it’s working.
What are some of the most notable events (milestones) that have happened in your life to date?
I became a published author at the age of 17. I was sexually harassed on the street and overcoming that experience was a milestone for me. And when I overcame that experience, I started writing about it in poems.
What other obstacles have you faced and overcome?
Being a female or a woman is never easy. It's an everyday struggle. From street gazers to backbenchers, they all just know how to suffocate you.
Looking externally into the public sphere, what female public figure inspires you the most to achieve your dreams & why?
Malala is someone I look up to. The way Malala fought the enemy with the power of education is exceptional.
How have the women and girls around you helped you to get to where you are today?
My mother is the reason I am where I am. We basically lived in a village and it was my mother who pulled us out of that place. So hats off to her courage and efforts in making me and my siblings whatever we are today.
